Warrants were issued in connection with a February 6 incident at a local convenience store, according to a release from the Martinsville Police Department.

On February 6, 2021 shortly before 2 a.m., city police officers responded to a panic alarm at the Valero convenience store, located at 1105 Brookdale Street, Martinsville.

When officers arrived, the store clerk reported that two vehicles had been in the parking lot, gunshots occurred, and the vehicles left.

The investigation showed that three men allegedly got into an argument in the parking lot. During that argument, one man allegedly shot another man.

Deangelo Howard was taken to the local emergency room and then transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Warrants for malicious wounding, shooting into an occupied building, reckless handling of a firearm, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony were issued on both Ombae K. Johnson Jr., 20, of Blankenship Road, Martinsville, and Dasyne A. Hairston, 19, of Fourth Street, Martinsville.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call Lt. Sandy Hines at (276) 403-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 276-63-CRIME.
