Piedmont Arts reopened to the public on Thursday, June 11, following guidelines set by the governor in the Phase Two reopening of Virginia. Guidelines include:

No one with a fever or symptoms of COVID-19, or known exposure to a COVID-19 case in the prior 14 days, is permitted in the establishment.

Face coverings are required at all times.

Guests must maintain six feet of physical distance between people who do not reside in the same household.

Occupancy cannot exceed the lesser of 50 percent of the lowest occupancy load on the certificate of occupancy, if applicable, or 50 patrons.

“The past 13 weeks of the coronavirus pandemic have been a unique and previously unimaginable time, but there has been one constant we could all count on: The healing power of the arts. Piedmont Arts remains committed to our mission to inspire and engage our community through the arts. Although our doors have been temporarily closed, we’ve been able to engage the community through virtual gallery tours, engaging social media content and educational resources for students now at home,” Heidi Pinkston, executive director, said.

“I am happy to announce that Piedmont Arts will reopen the galleries to the public on Thursday, June 11. I have been in close contact with the local health department and we will follow all guidelines outlined by the governor in Phase Two and by the CDC,” she said, adding that “the health and safety of our members, staff and community continues to be the most important thing to us. We will strive to make sure all guests will be comfortable and feel safe at Piedmont Arts.

“Now more than ever, we need art to inspire, comfort and connect. Piedmont Arts is devoted to remaining a vibrant source of inspiration for Martinsville-Henry County. Thank you for your continued understanding and support as we make this transition. Please visit our website for upcoming events and programs as we begin to reopen in a safe manner. We look forward to welcoming you back to Piedmont Arts.”

The exhibits 16 Hands: Two Generations, Working Together and Dreaming Geometry: An Artistic Exploration of Mathematics will be on display at the museum June 11 – July 25, 2020. Admission is free.

Piedmont Arts is a nonprofit art museum in Martinsville, located at 215 Starling Avenue, Martinsville. Museum hours are Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Admission is free. Learn more at www.PiedmontArts.org.
