Right now, the city is in campaign mode, covering the election of new city council members. If you think the press cannot control an election, you are obviously on the planet Mars. In the upcoming election, only Mayor LC Jones is under scrutiny. The rest of the campaigners are just bystanders looking for a way to get noticed by the voters.
Most news outlets have reported on the LC Jones lawsuit. How they report on Jones could affect his election, or is that their plan? Some news outlets report only one side of the story. No need to report on the other side because they have picked their villain and are now slickly trying to influence Jones’ campaign. One city council campaigner has said enough is enough, but as usual offers no answer. Sounds like they are announcing a new special at the food market, sold by themselves. Another council seeker wants you to believe they are the savior; good luck with that.
In the upcoming city council election, don’t let the news cycle control your beliefs. The purpose of lawsuits is to fix a wrong, settle a private disagreement, or get money or other relief for a loss. And yes, that includes attorney fees. There is a saying about history: it can be “his story,” and that includes the news reporter, not the facts of the issue.
