Red, white and blue filled the streets of Fieldale on Saturday as the community gathered for the third annual Fourth of July Parade, celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary with patriotic displays, local organizations and decorated vehicles.
Businesses, civic groups, elected officials and nonprofits participated in the parade, which drew residents to the roadside to celebrate Independence Day.
This year’s grand marshals were three dogs from the Henry County Animal Shelter, highlighting the shelter’s work in the community.
“Being chosen as grand marshal is an honor our shelter is truly grateful for,” shelter Director Dakota Cassell said. “Every day we have the privilege of serving our community and caring for its animals, and this recognition reflects the compassion and support of so many people who make that possible.”
Among those participating were Henry County supervisors Chris Lawless and Pam Cobler. Lawless drove his truck, decorated with a large metal firework display, through the parade. Former Martinsville Mayor Danny Turner also participated, and Joey Arrington displayed the America 250 land speed car along the parade route.
The parade was organized by Star News, with Charles Roark and Luis Romero of rbsnewsnow serving as hosts.
