Walk-ins are welcome; appointments have priority. The Red Cross is offering free antibody testing of all successful donors for COVID-19. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Stanleytown Elementary School, 74 Edgewood Dr, Stanleytown.

Franklin County Parks & Recreation: Franklin County Parks & Recreation present Concerts By Canoe at Twin Ridge Recreation Area on Philpott Lake Friday, July 17, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This event is free and features the Harwell Grice Band performing on a floating stage to a floating audience. Bring your canoe, kayak, SUP, tube or float and paddle your way to a front-row seat for this one-of-a-kind event. Food truck will be on-site at 5 p.m. Music begins at 6:30 p.m. Motorboats are asked to use the Salthouse Branch Recreation Area for lake access. Non-motorized boats may use Twin Ridge Recreation Area. Life jackets are required for all watercraft. Tubes and life jackets will be provided free of charge on a first-come, first serve basis due to limited supply. Mountain Laurel Trails: The Southern Classic MTB Series will travel to beautiful Ridgeway, VA for the Annual Sledgehammer race on July 18, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The race is the final race in the USA Cycling Virginia State Championship Series. Racers must be licensed by USA Cycling. One day licenses are available for $10 at registration. Expert payout up to $1,000 cash. 100% payout (Based on racer turnout). Onsite registration $10 extra. Dan River Basin Association: Volunteers needed for Spencer Penn Trail Work Day. Volunteers will move large metal debris (angle and sheet metal) from the trail to the adjoining woods; cut dead trees that are possible fall hazards and remove from trail; clean the trail of trash and other debris; prune limbs as necessary if overhanging trail and cut all rose bushes; repair bridge (wood is rotting) and steps leading to bridge; mow or weed-whack a path from the bridge; build raised flower boxes; plant flowers and landscape. DRBA will supply building materials, we have limited gloves and some tools. Volunteers are asked to bring tools, if possible — gloves, mower, weed whackers, reciprocating saw, metal cutting blades, pruners, rakes, shovels or torch.
