The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Blue Ridge has received a $20,000 grant to help provide food and nutrition resources to children and families during the summer.
The grant from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation was awarded through its Summers Without Hunger program, which supports organizations working to increase access to nutritious food and nutrition education for children and families experiencing food insecurity.
“This support will make a meaningful difference in our ability to provide food and nutrition opportunities to the young people we serve,” said BGCBR CEO Marisa Womack. “We are honored to partner with the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation in addressing food insecurity and helping children thrive.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Blue Ridge serves youth at seven sites in Martinsville and Henry County. The organization provides recreational activities, healthy lifestyle programs, leadership development, mentoring and academic assistance.
Founded in 2003 as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Martinsville-Henry County, the organization adopted its current name in 2009. It serves more than 500 members annually.
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation provides grants to organizations and programs addressing hunger in communities served by Food Lion. The foundation was established in 2001.
