The Southern Virginia Regional Alliance reported 2,754 jobs and more than $1.066 billion in capital investment during its 2026 annual meeting on June 30, highlighting continued economic growth across the region.
The meeting brought together investors, business leaders, elected officials and economic development partners from throughout Southern Virginia to review the region’s progress and discuss future opportunities.
Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Carrie Chenery delivered the keynote address, focusing on the state’s economic outlook and strategies to strengthen Virginia’s competitiveness.
“Southern Virginia is proving that strategic vision, committed partnerships and a relentless focus on the fundamentals wins deals,” Chenery said.
The annual meeting also recognized members of the Accelerate 2030 Capital Campaign, a private-sector fundraising initiative supporting the alliance’s economic development efforts. Campaign Chair Tim Clark, president of Blair Construction, presented commemorative coins to campaign cabinet and honorary cabinet members after the campaign exceeded its fundraising goal by 38%.
Officials from several state agencies also participated in the Governor’s Listening Tour for the Commonwealth’s economic plan for GO Virginia Region 3 before touring the Southern Virginia Megasite.
The Southern Virginia Regional Alliance serves Patrick, Pittsylvania, Halifax, Henry and Mecklenburg counties, along with the cities of Danville and Martinsville.
Incoming Economic Developers Chairman James Houchins, Patrick County’s economic development director, said the region is well-positioned for continued success.
“The momentum we celebrate tonight is real. The opportunities ahead are significant. And together, we are building a region that is stronger, more competitive, and more prosperous than ever before,” Houchins said.
