William “Bill” Harold Gravely

William “Bill” Harold Gravely, 88, of Axton, VA passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022. He was born on November 16, 1934, to the late Fred S. Gravely, Sr., and Lula Ingram Gravely in Bassett, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnne Diuguid Gravely; daughter, Elizabeth G. Greene; sister, Eunice Terry; brothers, Fred Gravely, Jr., Eugene Gravely, and Bernard Gravely.

Bill served in the United States Air Force for twenty-two plus years and retired as Master Sergeant. After retirement, he worked at Henry County Sheriff’s Department for sixteen years and retired from there as an investigator. He was a member of Beckham United Methodist Church and attended various other churches. William loved the Lord and his family; he was an avid golfer and bowler. Bill was a member of the AMVETS and the Gideons International Group.

He is survived by his daughter, Veronica G. Morton (Jackie); son-in-law, Rodney Greene; sister, Frances Hall; brother, Larry Gravely (Pat); grandchildren, Crystal G. Hall (Steven), Constance G. Lewis (Jimmy), Ashlee N. Underwood (Peanut); and William T. Nelson (Maegan). In addition to his grandchildren, he is survived by his great-grandchildren, Austin Hall, Landon Hall, Dylan Meeks, Bricen Lewis, and Lane Nelson.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at Axton Baptist Church, and other times at the home of Crystal Hall. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at Axton Baptist Church with Pastor Tony Lundy officiating. Burial will follow the service at Roselawn Burial Park.
