Virginia Board of Education meetings to be held

Pursuant to Chapter 1283 of the 2020 Acts of Assembly, the Virginia Board of Education will convene electronically on Wednesday, January 27 and Thursday, January 28, 2021 to transact the business statutorily required or necessary to continue the operations of the board.

Due to the COVID-19 coronavirus health emergency, the meetings will proceed under modified procedures.

All meetings are open to the public for viewing. All meetings will be livestreamed on the VDOE YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrbxl9wHScrWKWIEoUWNIfQ/videos. You may also view the livestream from the Board’s public meeting webpage.

Wednesday, January 27

The Board of Education will convene in a business session, beginning at 10 a.m. The purpose of convening this meeting is for the Board to go into executive session under Virginia Code §2.2-3711(A)(40). Public comment will not be accepted during this time.

The Special Committee to Review the Standards of Accreditation will convene at 2 p.m. The agenda and meeting materials are available on the board’s webpage. Oral public comment will not be accepted; however, written public comment will be accepted and may be submitted to the board’s email address at BOE@doe.virginia.gov. Pursuant to the Bylaws of the Board of Education, the board requests that members of the public only address the committee on matters on the committee’s published agenda and any matters added to the agenda during the meeting by the committee.

Thursday, January 28

The Board of Education will hold its monthly business meeting, beginning at 10 a.m. The agenda and meeting materials are available on the board’s webpage. Oral public comment will not be accepted, however, written public comment is always accepted on the board’s email account at BOE@doe.virginia.gov.

Written public comment received by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26 will be posted on the Board’s webpage in advance of the meeting. All written public comment will be provided to the Board in a timely manner.
