The Virginia State Police are investigating a Thursday incident involving a motor vehicle which resulted in a fatality, according to a release.

The incident occurred Aug. 20, at 10:05 p.m. on U.S. 220, just south of Commonwealth Boulevard in Henry County.

A 2004 Ford Ranger was traveling north on U.S. 220, when a woman, who was a passenger, allegedly exited the moving vehicle from the passenger side, the release stated.

The married couple, allegedly both intoxicated, began to argue.

The woman, identified as April Star Hollandsworth, 28, of Martinsville, allegedly jumped from the vehicle, which was traveling at speed, the release stated. She received a head injury when making contact with the ground, and died at the scene, according to the release.

The driver, Joshua Wayne Hollandsworth, remained at the scene. He was charged with drive under the influence of alcohol.

The Virginia State Police, Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the incident.

The investigation determined that the woman exited the moving vehicle by her own will and died as a result, the release stated.

The incident remains under investigation by Virginia State Police Senior Trooper R.S. Lawson.
