Solutions That Empower People, Inc. (STEP) is seeking sponsors for the second annual STEP Into Christmas home tour featuring several of Rocky Mount’s distinctive historic homes.

Set for Saturday, December 7, visitors will get a first-hand view of sections of select homes in the Claiborne Avenue neighborhood in Rocky Mount.

Ticketholders can see unique and beautiful Christmas decorations and learn some interesting tidbits about each of the homes. An intriguing glimpse of the High Street Cemetery and some of its history will be included. Refreshments will be offered at the Franklin Center for Advanced Learning and Enterprise (Franklin Center) on Claiborne. This year’s tour will also feature a Festival of Trees at the center.

This event is offered the same weekend as the Welcome Home to Franklin County street festival Friday, December 6 and the Christmas Parade on Sunday, December 8, to herald in the holiday season.

Sponsors will be acknowledged in a variety of ways through pre-publicity and recognition the day of the event, according to STEP Executive Director Marc Crouse.

“It’s a great way to get the word out about businesses and organizations while supporting a good cause,” he said. Sponsorships are available in several levels.

Last year was the inaugural event for the home tour, which showcased five historic homes on Maple Avenue. More than 500 people attended. Tickets for this year’s tour will be offered in October. Locations for ticket sales will be announced. Advance tickets are $15, or $20 at the gate.

STEP is a nonprofit community action agency which fights poverty and serves low income residents in Patrick, Henry, Franklin, Pittsylvania and Bedford counties and the cities of Martinsville and Danville. Services include early education (Head Start/Early Head Start), housing and weatherization, senior services (Meals on Wheels), homelessness and re-entry services, and youth services (alternative day school for at-risk youth). STEP has offices in Rocky Mount, Stuart, and Martinsville.

For more information about STEP Into Christmas, contact Crouse at 540-483-5142.

Santa engages visitors who are waiting to tour to one of the homes featured in last year’s STEP Into Christmas home tour. This year’s event is set for Saturday, Dec. 7 in the Claiborne Avenue neighborhood.
