Beginning Monday, January 25, those in group 1b who live in the West Piedmont Health District (WPHD) may sign up for the COVID-19 vaccine.
Phase 1b includes frontline essential workers, those aged 65 and older, those living in correctional facilities, homeless shelters, and migrant labor camps, and those aged 16 to 64 who have a high-risk medical condition or disability that increases the risk of severe illness from COVID-19.
Frontline essential workers are those in sectors essential to the functioning of society, who are at substantially higher risk of exposure to SARS-CoV-2, and cannot work remotely, including police, fire, and Hazmat; corrections and homeless shelter workers; childcare/pre–K through 12 teachers/staff, both public and private; food and agriculture (including veterinarians);
Manufacturing; grocery store workers; public transit workers; mail carriers (USPS and private);
officials needed to maintain continuity of government, including judges and public facing judicial workers.

Paper copies will be available at the health departments in Rocky Mount, Martinsville, and Stuart, as well as public libraries, municipal buildings, and chambers of commerce at Smith Mountain Lake and Martinsville.

Those who sign up will be contacted individually for an appointment as soon as vaccines are available.
One or more mass vaccination events will be held by the West Piedmont Health District or one of its partners. These events will be communicated to the public through social media, on the WPHD website and via the media.
