Shirley Lorene Hairston Benton, 77, of Martinsville, Virginia passed away Sunday, January 17, 2021, at Franklin Memorial Hospital. She was born March 19, 1943, in Martinsville, Virginia to the late Clay and Ruby Watkins Hairston. She loved to cook, watch soap operas, listen to gospel music and take care of her family. She was a member of Hylton Thessalionia (Black Jack) Primitive Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Herman “Himond” Lester Benton; and brother, Charles Hairston.
Ms. Benton is survived by sons, Ronnie Benton, Douglas Benton (Jackie), Aaron Ray Benton (Sonji Trell); daughter, Nada Hairston (Troy); sister, Annette Benton; brother, Lloyd Hairston; grandchildren, Latoya Barnwell, Tamika Dillard, Michael Canup, Lindsay Canup, Ashley Canup, Aaron “AJ” Benton, Dion Hairston, Christopher Hairston; and great grandchild, Kaiyan Fuller; a host of nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Donna, Betty and Gracie.
There will be a funeral service on Friday, January 22, 2021, at 1:00 P. M. at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Elders Emmanuel Jessup and C. J. Martin officiating. Visitation will be thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Sandy Ridge, North Carolina. The service will be according to CDC guidelines with mask and social distancing required.
