Shanelius Charles Hird, 38, of Martinsville passed away Sunday, July 31, 2022, at his home. He was born November 17, 1983, in Martinsville, Virginia to James Warren Woodson and Rev. Cornelia Johnson Preston.

Charles served in the Army National Guard and was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.  He loved football and singing. He was a member of the gospel group Redeemed Sonz. He loved the Dallas Cowboys, UNC Tarheels, shoes and movies. Charles loved God, his family and most of all his children.

Baptized at an early age at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church he had a great love for music.  He began singing in the children’s choir and continued singing throughout his life.  He was in the theater program at Magna Vista High School and Patrick Henry Community College. He was a 2001 graduate of Magna Vista High School.

Surviving are his parents, daughter, Alexis Hird; son, Bryan Hird; sisters, Yashenna Nichols and Mary Dodson; brother, Laviano Hird; nieces and nephews, Jeremiah, Reggie, Shane, Angel, Layla and A’Maya; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members; special friends, Nicki Medina, Mario Hairston, Rob Haynes and Deshawn Strickland.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, August 6, 2022, at 11:00 A. M. at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Kaven Smith officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at the Johnson Family Cemetery, Red Oak Road, Martinsville, Virginia.
