The Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting March 27 for Nancy’s Kreative Sewing Kreations, a new shop at 105 E. Main St. in Uptown Martinsville.
Owned by sewing artist Nancy Wiedrich, the shop gives her a permanent retail space after years of creating and selling handmade items.
Wiedrich said the store features aprons for adults and children, along with upcycled clothing and handmade gifts.
“My aprons are for adults and kids, men and women, it works well for, as a perfect gift. I do upcycling of all kinds of clothes. You can bring me the clothes from your closet, and I can show you how to change them around to make them into something new,” she said.
The store also offers alterations, including prom dresses and hems.
“I do appointments at my home from Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and I’m here personally on Friday and Saturday. So, you know I’m going to actually meet you, get to know you,” Wiedrich said.
Wiedrich said she especially enjoys making patchwork bags and other fabric creations, which can take several hours to complete.
In addition to her own work, Wiedrich is featuring artwork by fellow local artist Kimberly Boyd.
“I want something that shows the artists that we support here in Martinsville, and she agreed to do this,” Wiedrich said.
The store offers handmade gifts that are well-suited for new residents and real estate clients.
“These are great for when people move in. They’re great for realtor gifts. If somebody is moving into a home, and a realtor needs some thing special to give to that person, they can come here and pick out a homemade item, food item, a gift like that says ‘Welcome to Martinsville,’” she said.
Wiedrich shares the space with Theresa Thompson and the Uptown Mercantile.
“This front half is mine, and then the back half is mostly Nancy’s creative sewing creations, and then in between, we have the Uptown Mercantile mixed in,” Thompson said.
Thompson sells crystals, jewelry and other holistic items, along with with specialty foods.
“We have some coffee that came from Floyd. That’s not something that you’ll see here everywhere. We have biscotti. It’s a new Italian green cookie. Just all sorts of nifty stuff,” she said.
Wiedrich said the store’s biggest draw is its one-of-a-kind offerings.
“We’re super friendly. We have super gift ideas. We have great quality merchandise, and we’re here to help you in any way you need. But the biggest thing is, we’re a very unique gift store, along with everything else that we have,” she said.
Nancy’s Kreative Kreations is open Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
