The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that the Salthouse Branch Park Campground, located in Henry, will close for the winter season on Nov. 30, 2019. The last night of camping will be the night of Nov. 29.

The park will reopen March 1, 2020 for off-season camping; Salthouse Branch Park will restore all services on April 1, 2020 for the spring, summer and fall seasons.

Goose Point Park in Bassett will remain open for off-season camping for those wishing to camp during the winter months.

“We had over 19,000 campers at Salthouse Branch in 2018 who enjoyed many recreational opportunities on Philpott Lake” said Christopher Powell, Project Manager for the Army Corps of

Engineers. “People who enjoy camping during the winter months still have the opportunity to do so at our Goose Point location in Bassett.”

Since the beginning of the building of the Philpott Dam in 1948, the Army Corps of Engineers has

been continually improving the natural resources around Philpott Lake to make it one of the most enjoyable recreation areas in the State of Virginia. More than 300,000 people visit Philpott Lake every year bringing economic advantages to its surrounding cities, towns and counties which can support jobs and growth in the region.

For more information, contact the Philpott Lake Visitor’s Center at (276) 629-2703 or online at
