Robert James Oakley, 72, of Martinsville, Va. passed away on Monday, February 6, 2023.  He was born in Martinsville on June 7, 1950 to George D. Oakley and Julia Ann Lester.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, George T. “Capt Til” Lester, Sr. and Frances Parker Turner Lester; step-grandmother, Lottie Shelton Lester; his wife, Peggy Williams Oakley; sons, Robert J. Oakley, II and Dan Lee Oakley; daughter Ann Lee Oakley; sisters, Sally Parker Oakley Burch and Julia Oakley Gravely; brothers, George D. Oakley, Jr. and John D. Oakley, Jr.

He is survived by his granddaughter, Kylee Rain Oakley; sister-in-law, Angeline Riddle Oakley; and several nieces and nephews.                          .

Robert was a graduate of Martinsville High School and attended Hargrave Military Academy and Columbia Commercial College.  He was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church.

Robert was a very devoted UVA sports fan and a member of the Blue Ridge Miata Club.  He also enjoyed the music of his favorite band, Chicago.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at McKee Stone Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Presbyterian Church, 2331 Old Chatham Road, Martinsville, VA. 24112.

McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville, Va. is serving the family.
