In partnership with the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce, Virginia Tech’s Reynolds Homestead recently announced that applications for Leadership Patrick County are now available. The program is a perfect fit for emerging leaders, residents new to the community, those working in public service or private sectors, and any professional interested in deepening their understanding of Patrick County’s assets and challenges.
The multi-month professional development opportunity invites up to 12 individuals to enhance leadership skills, civic connection, and community knowledge. Orientation is scheduled for Sept. 8 at the Reynolds Homestead in Critz, and the cohort will meet once a month until June 2027.
Participants will travel to different communities in the county to visit businesses, historical sites, nonprofit organizations, and schools and learn about the incredible opportunities in and around the county as well as specific needs in each community. Additionally, cohort members will attend a community meeting to gain a greater perspective of government and other organizations committed to improving the lives of Patrick County residents.
As individuals move through the program, they will collaborate with their team to implement a community project to address an identified need. Participants should expect to gain skills in team building, collaboration, consensus building, design thinking, and project management. An overnight trip to Richmond provides an opportunity to tour the Capitol, attend sessions, meet their senator and delegate, and enjoy a meal with members of the Reynolds family.
