Registration is now open for the 2026 Henry County 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, which will be held Sept. 12 at Martinsville Speedway. Organizers say this year’s event marks the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and will honor those who lost their lives, the first responders who answered the call and the families forever changed.
The event is organized by All Vets, a Henry County nonprofit, in partnership with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
Participants will climb 2,071 steps — the equivalent of the number climbed by many first responders in the Twin Towers — in remembrance of those who died in the attacks. The event is untimed, and is not a race. It is untimed, and participants are encouraged to climb at their own pace. Climbers may complete all 2,071 steps or as many as they are able.
The climb begins at 10 a.m. at the Turn 4 grandstand entrance at Martinsville Speedway, 340 Speedway Road, Ridgeway.
Registration is $25. Participants who register by Aug. 20 will receive an event T-shirt.
Spectators are welcome, but only registered participants will be allowed in the grandstand during the climb.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Henry County’s volunteer fire departments and rescue squads.
“As we mark 25 years since the attacks on September 11th, we have a responsibility to ensure the legacy of courage, sacrifice, and unity is never forgotten,” organizers said. “This climb is our community’s way of honoring the fallen, supporting our first responders, and standing together in remembrance as we strengthen the lives of our community members.”
All Vets is a Henry County-based nonprofit whose mission is to honor fallen service members while promoting physical fitness and mental wellness among veterans, their families and the community.
