With the holiday season approaching, Piedmont Arts is ready to bring the Martinsville and Henry County community together for a series of cherished events. This year, the organization will once again host its annual Christmas Tree Lighting and the much-anticipated Roanoke Symphony Orchestra (RSO) Holiday Pops Spectacular, providing festive experiences for all ages.

The celebrations kick off on Thursday, Dec. 5, with the Christmas Tree Lighting in the Gravely-Lester Art Garden from 4 to 6 p.m. Piedmont Arts will showcase a dazzling tree designed by light artist Ian Hogg, illuminating the garden nightly through New Year’s Day. The free event will feature performances by the First Baptist Church choir and other musical guests, as well as an appearance by Santa Claus. Families can enjoy holiday crafts, treats, and plenty of photo opportunities to capture the festive spirit.

A highlight of Piedmont Arts’ holiday offerings, the RSO Holiday Pops Spectacular, returns Sunday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. The concert, led by conductor David Stewart Wiley, promises an afternoon filled with festive tunes and vibrant energy. This year’s performance features special guest soloist Michael Lynche, a celebrated soul singer known for his rich, emotive voice and dynamic presence. Lynche, who gained nationwide acclaim on American Idol as “Big Mike,” brings his powerful vocals and charisma to the holiday stage, delivering soulful renditions of seasonal favorites.

Tickets for the Holiday Pops are now available, with reserved seating priced at $30, general admission at $20, and tickets for K-12 students at $10. To encourage community participation, Piedmont Arts is offering free general admission to WIC cardholders who show ID. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Piedmont Arts, through their website, or by phone, with availability at the door on the day of the performance.

Additionally, Altrusa will be collecting non-perishable food items for Grace Network in the concert lobby, encouraging patrons to help brighten the season for those in need.
