A man is dead, and another is in police custody, following an alleged shooting Thursday in the parking lot of the BG’s Express store in Horsepasture, authorities said.

Henry County Sheriff’s Maj. Eric Winn said the incident occurred around 10:15 a.m. at the store that is located on U.S. 58/Philpott Highway.

The first deputy arrived at the scene at 10:17 a.m., closely followed by rescue personnel and Henry County Public Safety. Authorities found a man laying in the parking lot and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, Winn said.

Emergency medical personnel worked to stabilize the gunshot victim, who was later pronounced dead at the scene, Winn said.

The alleged shooter is in custody, Winn said.

He declined to release the name of the victim pending family notification.

Winn also declined to identify the alleged shooter, pending charges.

Anyone with any information about the incident, or anyone passing by the store at the time of the incident, is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 276-638-8751 or Crimestoppers at (276) 632-7463. Rewards are available through Crimestoppers for information related to crimes. The amount of any reward depends on the nature of the crime and the information received.
