An estimated 60 people gathered in Fieldale Park on Sunday, October 26, for the dedication of a new historical marker honoring Colonel George Waller, a Revolutionary War patriot and early Henry County leader.
The ceremony, hosted by the Colonel George Waller Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), was held on the grounds of Waller’s former property. The event marked part of the ongoing observance of the United States’ 250th anniversary and Virginia’s Local History Month.
Members of the General Joseph Martin and Patrick Henry chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution, along with the Martinsville-Henry County 250th Committee, stood alongside SAR members and guests in honoring Waller’s contributions to the nation’s founding.
The Fincastle Reenactment Group presented the colors and offered living history displays, including a musket firing demonstration that gave attendees a vivid sense of the Revolutionary era.
The marker, which details Waller’s life and military service, was installed in honor and memory of the late Bob Vogler, whose dedication to preserving local history and leadership within the SAR ensured that Waller’s legacy and that of Henry County’s patriots would be remembered for generations to come.
