Starting in February, Sweets by Rachel, Patrick County’s new home-based business, began offering a variety of homemade cakes, cupcakes, cookies and iced coffee jugs to satisfy any sweet tooth.
Owner Rachel Gates said she was inspired to start her business because of her love of baking.
“I’ve always enjoyed baking and creating new things with baking cakes and other goodies and decorating them. I’m all self-taught, like I’ve never taken any classes or anything, it’s just something I’ve always enjoyed doing,” she said.
Noting that people would always compliment her baking while others would ask her to bake for special events, Gates said some of her friends encouraged her to start a home baking business.
