The New College Institute (NCI) is holding a holiday food drive for Community Storehouse, which supports Martinsville and Henry County localities. The drive runs through Thursday, December 22.

Food drop offs can be made at NCI’s receptionist’s desk located in the first floor’s lobby. All donations of food are accepted, but the charity is currently short on pasta sauce, boxed meals (like hamburger helper, instant potatoes, etc.), and canned meats.

There will also be a jar at the receptionist’s desk for any monetary donations for the Community Storehouse. Donations can also be made online at https://storehousemhc.com/.  Any funds that are collected through this drive will be earmarked for their newest endeavor, a Community Kitchen which will expand services to include providing hot meals on-site and by delivery.

The Community Storehouse’s mission is “to feed those in need & reduce food waste while investing in solutions that foster self-sufficiency.” The organization services seniors and disabled individuals with ongoing services, through an on-site grocery store, and through a home delivery program for those who struggle with transportation or mobility.

“We are passionately pursuing a hunger-free community, with dignity and reliability,” said Travis J. Adkins, executive director of the Community Storehouse.  “We’re so glad to partner with NCI.”

Since 2001, Community Storehouse has provided over 2.5 million meals, and has the capacity to deliver 2,000 meals a week.
