The Rev. Dr. Mary Young will be the guest preacher when Morning Star Holy Church celebrates its 73rd anniversary on Sunday, February 12. The service begins at 10 a.m., and will be live-streamed on Facebook, or attend in person by visiting the church, located at 2839 Stoney Mountain Road, Martinsville.
The theme, “Imprint of an Enduring Legacy,” will pay homage to the Rev. Almeda Millner, who was the founder and first pastor of the church that her son, Tyler C. Millner currently pastors.
She joined the staff of The Association of Theological Schools (ATS) in June 2017 as director of leadership education, where she was responsible for planning and implementing leadership education programs for administrators in ATS member schools.
Young came to ATS after 23 years in service to the Samuel DeWitt School of Theology of Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia, where she served as assistant professor of Christian education, and director of the Master of Arts in Christian Education program.
Her current portfolio at ATS includes the association’s work with Race and Ethnicity and Women in Leadership. A graduate of Virginia Union University in mathematics, Young earned her M.Div. from Virginia Union and her Ed. D. from Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education.
Young recently moved back to VA and lives in North Chesterfield where she continues remote work with the Association of Theological Schools.
Her motto for ministry is that “the Battle is not yours – it is the Lord’s!”
