The City of Martinsville has appointed Chad Rhoads as police chief, effective Jan. 1.
Rhoads brings 25 years of service with the Martinsville Police Department and currently serves as acting chief of police. During his career, he has served in a range of leadership and operational roles, including deputy chief, captain, lieutenant, sergeant, criminal investigator and patrol officer.
Rhoads is a Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police-certified law enforcement command executive and holds a Master of Science in criminal justice and administrative leadership from Averett University. He is also a graduate of nationally recognized law enforcement leadership programs.
While serving as acting chief, Rhoads led initiatives including the formation of the department’s peer support team and the modernization of departmental policies. He also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Averett University.

“Chief Rhoads has earned the respect of his colleagues and the trust of the community through his integrity, professionalism, and dedication to public service,” Interim City Manager Rob Fincher said.
