JESSIE CLYDE ROARK

Jessie Clyde Roark, 87, of Martinsville, went to his heavenly home, August 24, 2019 He was born in Patrick County, March 21, 1932 to the late Clyde and Hadie Hutchens Roark.

Shirley Mabe Roark, his high school sweetheart and wife of 65 years, is left to cherish his memory. Also surviving are twin daughters, Stacie R. Monday (Clarence) of Surfside Beach, SC and Tracie R. Matthews (Mark) of Wake Forest, N.C., and Shirley Karen Roark of Florida; grandsons (the highlight of his life), Chad Jessie Monday, Dylan Mark and Brandon Joseph Matthews; sister, Ruth R. Handy and a special sister-in-law, Shirley D. Roark; nieces and nephews, Wendell and Carolyn Handy, Timmy and Sheila Handy, Lisa and Don Laliberty, Jeff and Candace Roark, Rusty Roark, Jamie and Pam Roark, Randy and Angela Steele.

In addition to his parents, Jessie was preceded in death by brothers, Rayford and Herman Roark and sister, Ilene Pittis; father and mother-in-law, Ervin and Bertha Stowe Mabe.

Jessie was a 1950 graduate of Hardin Reynolds Memorial School in Critz. He served in the Navy for 4 years and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He retired from vending after over 30 years of service with Marriot, Mackie’s, Service America and then Canteen at the local DuPont Plant. He was an active

member of Kearfott Memorial Baptist Church for 49 years and was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Martinsville.

A memorial service with military honors was held on Monday, August 26, 2019 at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville. The service was officiated by the Rev. Dr. Dennis Knight. A private burial was held Wednesday, August 18, 2019 in Roselawn Burial Park with son-in-law, Clarence Monday and grandson, Chad Monday presiding.

The family expresses great appreciation and love to each and every one who has touched Jessie’s and his family’s lives in so many beautiful ways. Special thanks to the Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville for the care and support they provided to Jessie.
