A recruitment fair for Early Head Start/Head Start 2020-2021 school year at STEP Inc. in Stuart will be held Monday, March 10, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at the STEP site, 4559 Wayside Road.

Early Head Start/Head Start is a school readiness and child development program for children in low-income families.  If offers developmental and health screenings, educational activities, family engagement activities and support services and nutritious meals. The program offers home-base services to pregnant mothers and children to age three, and classroom settings for infant, toddlers, and preschoolers. Children with special needs are welcome.

There are no fees for families who qualify.

According to the National Head Start Association, Head Start students are more likely to graduate high school and to go to at least one year of college, and less likely to be out of school, unemployed, and in poor health.

Items which should be brought to registration include birth certificate, proof of address, recent income source, social security number, insurance information and immunization record.

For information, contact the STEP Stuart office at 276-694-2239.

Early Head Start and Head Start programs offered through STEP, Inc. (Solutions That Empower People, Inc.) serve 218 children in Patrick and Franklin counties.  STEP is a nonprofit community action agency that also offers youth services (LIFES Academy and Project Discovery); senior services (Meals on Wheels, transportation); supportive services (re-entry, homelessness prevention); housing and weatherization; and financial services (tax preparation assistance). STEP’s mission is to empower people to overcome barriers to economic, educational and developmental success within the communities it serves.
