A Get Out The Vote (GOTV) rally will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, at Kornna Kitchen, 37 E. Main Street, Uptown Martinsville, for Karen Baker, a democrat from Floyd County who is running in the November 2024 election against incumbent 9th District U.S. Rep. Morgan Griffith, R-Salem.

Baker is a former lawyer for the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission, an Administrative Law Judge for the Social Security Administration, and an ER nurse in rural Virginia. A union supporter, she is a strong advocate for healthcare and particularly maternal healthcare in the large rural area in which she is actively running.

Candidates for the November 4, 2025, election also will attend, including

*Sen. Aaron Rouse, D, who plans to run for Lt. Governor. Rouse was born in Norfolk, is married, has served on the Virginia Beach City Council, and a member of the Virginia Senate, District 22, since 2023. He also is a former college (Virginia Tech) and professional football player.

*Melody Cartwright, a democrat, is seeking to oust incumbent Eric Phillips, R-Martinsville, in the 48th District. A Martinsville native, Cartwright is a single mother, area activist for appropriate and affordable housing, reproductive freedom and the urgent need for a maternity ward in the area, and is deeply concerned about the high percentage of poverty and the homeless in the area. She also is a proponent for our working-class folks and strongly supports unions.

Refreshments will be served.

It was a wonderful event! Please click the FB link below to watch the speeches, particularly candidate Karen Baker’s speech. She not only let’s us know exactly what Morgan Griffith has not done and has voted against…she talks about what she DOES plan on doing. Real, can do ideas. Please vote for your best interests, Karen Baker for the people!
