Crews from the Ridgeway and Horsepasture Volunteer Fire Departments responded to a fire that broke out at Laminate Technologies in Ridgeway.

By Callie Hietala

Ridgeway and Horsepasture volunteer fire departments responded to a Nov. 11 blaze at Laminate Technologies on Industrial Park Drive in Ridgeway.

A.J. Goins, chief of the Ridgeway department, said the call came in around 8:35 p.m., and “the only thing we know for sure is that we had a laminating machine catch on fire.”

A small group of employees gathered outside of the building, and by 9:30 p.m., Goins said that although the fire was out, the smoke was too heavy for first responders to see the extent of the damage.

As of 9:30 p.m., smoke in the building was still too heavy for first responders to determine the extent of the damage. Crews worked to ventilate the building.

Fire crews then worked to ventilate the building, which still appeared thick with smoke as the plant’s alarms continued to sound.

Neither Goins nor the Laminate Technologies plant manager responded to requests for further information. Officials from the Henry County Fire Marshall’s office said that the fire was not significant enough for their department to be called in.
