Evelena Smithson Akers, 81, of Axton, Virginia passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at her residence.  She was born September 29, 1939, in West Virginia to the late Leonard and Edna Burks Smithson.  She was the founder of Clearview Gospel Mission and owned a flower shop.  She enjoyed shopping, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Akers; sisters, Kitty Dickerson and JoAnn Byerly; brothers, Buddy Smithson and Harley Smithson; and grandchildren, Jacob Akers, III and Sammy Cannaday.

She is survived by her husband, Jacob McCoy Akers, Sr.; daughter, Vera Palmer; son, Junior Akers (Donna); grandchildren Erik Palmer and Dustin Akers; and great-grandchildren, Jensen Palmer and Asher Akers.

There will be a funeral Saturday, April 24, 2021, at 1:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Blonnie and Orville Gregory, Jr. officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be at a later date.
