Ruth Easley, a Martinsville native and incumbent Com missioner of the Revenue, has qualified to be a candidate for re-election on November 4.

“I have served as Commissioner of the Revenue for 23 years and have provided consistent and transparent leadership during turbulent times during my tenure in office. I want to continue to build on a tradition of integrity, service and trust,” Easley said.
A graduate of Martinsville High School, Virginia Commonwealth University, and the University of Virginia’s Wel don Cooper Center as a Master Commissioner of the Revenue, Easley is the first female com missioner of the revenue—and the longest serving—in the city’s history.
“It has been my esteemed honor to serve the citizens of Martinsville, providing innovative services while carefully safeguarding customer information in an efficient and respectful manner.”
Easley will be challenged by Shasta Carmichael. As of this publication, Carmichael’s petition signatures had not been certified.
Incumbent Treasurer Cindy Dickerson did not seek reelection. Sheila Clark is certified to be on the ballot, challenged by Kendall Davis. His paper work had not been certified as of Wednesday afternoon.
In the Commonwealth’s Attorney race, Deputy Common wealth’s Attorney Patrick Flinn and Lynda Hartsell, of Law Office of Lynda S. Hartsell, Esq., PLLC, will vie for the post. Incumbent Andy Hall will not plan to seek reelection.
Incumbent Martinsville Sheriff Steve Draper is currently the only candidate on the ballot for the position.
In Henry County, Chief Deputy Registrar Carol Blades confirmed that all candidates are certified to be on the ballot.
Board of Supervisors:
- Blackberry District: Incumbent Jim Adams will be challenged by Ray Reynolds.
- Collinsville District: Incumbent Joe Bryant will face Chris Lawless.
- Iriswood District: Incumbent Garrett Dillard is the only candidate seeking the seat.
School Board:
- Blackberry District: Sherri Vestal and Jonathan Martin will vie for the seat. Incumbent Tom Auker will not seek reelection.
- Collinsville District: Cherie Whitlow will be on the ballot. Incumbent Elizabeth Durden did not seek reelection.
- Horsepasture District: Valeria Edwards will seek the seat in a special election.
- Iriswood District: Incumbent Ben Gravely is the only candidate.
