DRBA, partners offer summer paddle safety classes

The Dan River Basin Association (DRBA) and its partners are offering more than a dozen paddle safety classes this summer for beginner and intermediate paddlers.

For the past 24 years, DRBA has worked to promote safe recreation on the region’s waterways. The classes are designed to help participants build confidence and develop essential paddling skills.

Topics include:

• Basic paddle strokes to help prevent injury.

• Understanding weather conditions.

• Blueway navigation.

• Boat types and proper boat fitting.

• Making safe decisions based on skill level and conditions.

Class locations and registration information

Danville — Abreu-Grogan Park

Register through Danville Parks and Recreation.

Classes:

• June 18, 6-8 p.m.

• July 2, 6-8 p.m.

Fairy Stone State Park

Register through Fairy Stone State Park by phone at 276-930-2424 or through the park website.

Classes:

• June 13, 10 a.m.-noon

• June 26, 5-7 p.m.

• July 8, 5-7 p.m.

• July 18, 10 a.m.-noon

Lake Reidsville

Register through GetOutdoors.

Classes:

• June 27, 10 a.m.-noon

• Aug. 8, 10 a.m.-noon

Farmer Lake

Register through GetOutdoors.

Class:

• June 15, 6-8 p.m.

Eden — Smith River to Dan River Beginner River Trip

Register through GetOutdoors.

Classes:

• July 30, 6-8 p.m.

• Aug. 2, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
