Friday, September 11

Spencer-Penn Centre: Music Night. Doors open at 5 p.m. Open mic at 5:30 p.m. for all who want to get on stage and play. Scheduled bands begin at 6 p.m. Concessions are available. Admission is $5 at the door. Contact: (276) 957-5757; 475 Spencer Penn Road, Spencer.

Saturday, September 12

PHCC: Introduction to Photography with Certified Professional Photographer Rick Dawson from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Class covers the basics of digital photography, different functions of digital cameras and techniques for taking great photos. PHCC: Fab Lab! A monthly featured activity to allow individuals and families the opportunity to learn fun and creative things you can do in the Fab Lab. No experience or technical knowledge needed. This month, participants will be using the laser cutter to create unique, custom designed rubber stamps. Tuition is $15 per person and class will be held at the IDEA Center from 10 a.m. until noon.

Piedmont Arts: Enjoy a day of family fun while decorating the sidewalks in the Art Garden with colorful chalk art. This socially distanced Family Day is designed to keep guests safe. Each participant will have a designated spot and their own bucket of chalk. Artist Christina Davis will give a demonstration at 11:30 a.m. Davis is a chalk artist and art teacher from Lynchburg. She has created public and private murals across central Virginia. Guests can also create their own kites and/or paper flowers. Complimentary snacks provided. All ages welcome. Piedmont Arts: Need a little guidance on your artwork? Spend studio time working in acrylic, oil or colored pencil with artist Karen Despot and fellow students from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Bring your own supplies.
