Mountain Laurel Trails: The Southern Classic MTB Series will travel to beautiful Ridgeway, VA for Annual Sledgehammer race on July 18, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The race is the final race in the USA Cycling Virginia State Championship Series. Racers must be licensed by USA Cycling. One day licenses are available for $10 at registration. Expert payout up to $1,000 cash. 100% payout (Based on racer turnout). Onsite registration $10 extra. Patrick Henry Community College: The Patrick Henry Community College Board will meet via Zoom at 1 p.m.  This is a public meeting, but the Board will not receive public comment.  Information for joining the Zoom session will be posted on the PHCC website, www.patrickhenry.edu.

 

Tuesday, July 21

The Community Fellowship: Back2School Drive Registration from 6-8 p.m. Students must be present in order to register to receive new socks, shoes, backpacks and school supplies on August 1. Registration will take place at the following: The Community Fellowship, First Baptist Ridgeway, Mercy Crossing, Albert Harris Elementary School, Fairway Baptist Church, Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Hillcrest Baptist Church, Kearfott Memorial Baptist Church, and Stanleytown Amazing Grace Baptist Church.

 

Saturday, July 25

Dan River Basin Association: Volunteers needed for Spencer Penn Trail Work Day. Volunteers will move large metal debris (angle and sheet metal) from the trail to the adjoining woods; cut dead trees that are possible fall hazards and remove from trail; clean the trail of trash and other debris; prune limbs as necessary if overhanging trail and cut all rose bushes; repair bridge (wood is rotting) and steps leading to bridge; mow or weed wack a path from the bridge; build raised flower boxes; plant flowers and landscape. DRBA will supply building materials, we have limited gloves and some tools. If you have gloves, mower, weed wacker, reciprocating saw, metal cutting blades, pruners, rakes, shovels or torch, please bring with you! Please dress appropriately for the heat and high grass/woods. Patrick Henry Community College: Workforce Programs Virtual Open House from noon to 1 p.m. via zoom. The open house will provide information on upcoming short-term and Fast Forward training options as well as financial aid.
