Saturday, June 27

Household Hazardous Waste Day: 7 to 10 a.m., rain or shine, held at the Bassett Service Center, 2285 Fairystone Park Highway, (across from Bassett Office Supply). Free to all Martinsville and Henry County residents. Items accepted include solvents, paint, fuels, automobile fluids, lead-acid batteries and paper to be shredded — up to four boxes per vehicle. Shredding is provided by EMI. Papers will be gathered at the Bassett Service Center, but shredded offsite.

Monday, June 29

Philpott Lake: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Philpott Lake is continuing the gradual reopening of USACE recreation areas that were closed due to COVID-19. Philpott Lake will begin moving into Phase 2 of our operations on  June 29, with the opening of beaches and shelters. Playgrounds will remain closed until local guidance allows for them to open. To continue this progression, visitors are asked to follow posted signage and adhere to local, state, federal guidelines.

Monday, June 29-Thursday, July 2

Infinity Acres Ranch: Animal Adventure Summer Camp–Special Needs Camp on Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Free for up to ten for qualified families. Camp includes animal handling activities, games, crafts, and lunch/snack. Ages 6-17. Call (276) 358-2378.

New College Institute: Join Tomika Brown, Director of The College Place-VA, and NCI  to learn about how to pay for college! This presentation will provide helpful information for parents and students on the following topics: college costs in VA, federal and state financial aid, the FAFSA, scholarships, and family conversations about college financial planning—all important areas of focus for preparing to pay for a college education!
