Henry County Commissioner of Revenue Tiffany R. Hairston and her office are participating in the 2026 Commissioners and Cans Food Drive. Every donation goes to the Patrick & Henry Community College Patriot Pantry. Canned meats, vegetables and other non-perishable food items are requested. Sounds on the Square with Rosebud Band, 7 – 10 p.m. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, and admission to the MHC Heritage Museum will be half price. The Floyd-based band draws inspiration from long-form improvisation. Rosebud stretches each tune into a living, breathing experience. A series of four classes on genealogical research will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Bassett Historical Center on the first four Tuesdays in September (1, 8, 15, 22). The Martinsville-Henry County Lions Club regularly meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Pacific Bay Restaurant, 530 Commonwealth Blvd., Martinsville.
Bassett Ruritan Club, 277 Philpott Dam Road, Bassett, hosts breakfast on the 2nd Saturday of each month, $9 for adults, and $4 for children under 12. The Fontaine Ruritan Club hosts Bingo every Tuesday, 1903 Joseph Martin Highway, Martinsville. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and games begin at 7. Money from Bingo supports community service awards, scholarships, and other community efforts.
