Jaxon Harris, the Henry County student who was struck by a vehicle while exiting a school bus in September, was this year’s grand marshal of the Martinsville-Henry County Christmas Parade.

Though no snow was in the forecast, it fell in abundance on about 12-feet of Martinsville when the Martinsville-Henry County Christmas Parade kicked off celebrations of the holiday season.

In keeping with this year’s “Let it Snow” theme, snow machines were used to add to the wintery atmosphere of the night. Hundreds lined the sidewalks in Uptown Martinsville to watch as floats, trucks, cars, and even horses paraded through the streets, eliciting smiles of delight from those gathered to take part in the festivities.

Martinsville Sheriff Steve Draper, Henry County Sherriff Lane Perry, and Martinsville Deputy Chief of Police Robert Fincher wave to onlookers while ringing in the season.
Martinsville Fire Chief Ted Anderson flashed a ‘thumbs up’ from an antique 1934 fire engine.
The Martinsville High School band marched and performed in the parade.
Students from Teresa’s School of Baton and Dance showed off their skills.
Magna Vista High School’s marching band took par.
A costumed Grinch looked on young parade-goers, and even he managed a smile.
Cheerleaders from Martinsville High School performed in front of the snow machines.
Bassett High School’s marching band brought plenty of festive spirit to the evening.
A youngster waved to Santa and Mrs. Claus as they passed on the Ameristaff float.
