Bulldog Beat, Issue III

We are working on blends and Lexia in Reading. We took notes on algebra and on Math Square. In history, we took notes on the Progressive Era and did a worksheet. In reading, we had a quiz on flashbacks.  In history, Project All Stars came to the class. In English, we wrote in our HMH books and was learning about an author’s purpose.  Ka’Zairah Adkins, 7th grade  

On Monday in science, we learned about cell transport. In the band, I play trumpet now. On Tuesday, we went to clubs. It is so much fun. In science, we’re learning about cellular organization. Now it’s time for my favorite part of the day, lunch. For lunch, we had chicken smackers and mashed potatoes. Yummy! Thursday, first thing in the morning, we went to clubs and then came back to homeroom and watched CNN 10.  Alanna Gerlach, 7th grade  

Today in class, we did progress learning for IE. We all had to get on HMH, and I did a reality check. At lunch, I had a chicken sandwich with hot sauce, and it was good! Then I went to my elective and played a game where you had to go into a circle and pick an item up without getting tagged. At the end of the day, I had a volleyball game, and we lost, but that’s OK. Good morning, Bulldog family! We have lots of stuff going on this week! Let’s get right to it! In history, we learned about the Progressive Era and the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Tragedy. I hope everybody had a great week!  Jade Holland-Dallas-7th grade   

This week was chill for the Bulldogs. Monday was the first day of fall and the beginning of cool weather. No more shorts! We also began learning slope in Algebra 1 and DNA in Science 7. Career Investigation greeted a guest speaker, Christy Deatherage, who works at the museum. On Tuesday, Martinsville had their first virtual announcements since last school year. Avid worked on TRF’s while Art used texture stamps. Wednesday, the golf game was cancelled due to rain and gym class played softball. Katie Wall, 7th grade   

This past Monday, it was Ny’Asia’s birthday. We learned about slope and when we got it down pat, Ms. Pendry gave us a new slope, and I understood it. T’Kari Breedlove-8th grade  

On Tuesday, we took a test in science on potential and kinetic energy. We’re still learning about the preamble. In algebra, we are working on quadratic equations. On Wednesday, in science, we went to Ms. Galloway’s room and went more in depth about different energies involving potential and kinetics.  In English, we worked on static versus dynamic characters from Long Way Down. On Thursday, in history, we took a test on the steps to amend the US Constitution and Virginia Constitution. After that, we learned about the discriminant, rational, and irrational solutions. We played Let It Snow in band in preparation for our winter concert. Jeanette Carrillo Llamas, 8th grade  

In science class, we are learning about energies and in math, we had a test about step equations. In civics, we learned about consent and the law, and that’s what I learned about this week. Tayshawn Hairston, 8th grade  

Here at MMS, there is a mystery. There’s been many ducks all over the school. Who did it? We don’t know, but it’s been fun for the students and teachers to find out. Many students have found different types of ducks and the students love them. Many students have found different colored ducks. One student found a green duck with sunglasses. Jaymi Hernandez, 8th grade  

In history, we’re learning about the amendment process and key concepts of the US government. In science, we are learning about potential and kinetic energy types.  Basketball season is almost here and I’m ready! Congratulations to Maya for winning SCA President!  Taimir Manns, 8th grade  

In civics this week, I did a video on U.S. citizens and a practice test on naturalization. In science, I did EDPuzzles and a lab on energy. We finished Long Way Down and did a test and essay on it. I had a volleyball game on Thursday and that was fun. On Friday, we had an incentive. Selena Stultz-8th grade   

This week, the class did a composing test on the story Long Way Down. Now we’ve finished the whole book. President Maya has been doing a great job keeping a check on things. The volleyball team played a great set this week. Go Martinsville!  Ma’Kiya Walton, 8th grade   

Monday, JV volleyball had a game against George Washington Middle School. Wednesday, there was a golf match, but it was cancelled. Friday, 8th graders had a snow cone incentive. Stay positive and go Bulldogs! Maya Williams, 8th grade  

In band, we put our instruments together and went over the parts. In science, we did an experiment with direct and indirect sunlight. For lunch, we had a choice of cheese pizza, pepperoni pizza, or salad. In English, we tried to figure out by reading a passage if it was first person, second person, or third person. In math, we did a test with 10 questions on dividing and multiplying fractions. There is still no sign of who is hiding the ducks in places. For lunch, we had a choice of chicken nuggets or salad. and physical education. In English, we went outside to do an activity. In band, we played on our mouthpieces and then Mr. Givens showed us the button to hit to play something new. In math, we learned negative and positive numbers on a number line. We also had to do a short quiz to see if we knew it.  In science, we did an experiment with why we have day and night. The volleyball team played today, and we are proud of them. Adelaide Brent, 6th grade  

On Monday, at MMS, it was a very good day. In Mrs. Woody’s history class, we got to make Kwakiutils out of paper. Everyone did a very good job and had nice creativity. In English, Mrs. Scales class got to read a book called Freak the Mighty. Everyone loves it and is ready to read more. At PE, Mr. Hutchens and Coach T taught the students how to play tennis.  On the first day, they had to bounce the ball and keep it up with a tennis racket. The most important part was lunch. We had pizza, and it was very good. Tuesday was a good start. The fun part about the day in 6th grade was English. Freak the Mighty was really juicy! In Math, Ms. Clemons let the students make flash cards to help. After they made flash cards, they tested each other.  Mr. Givens taught students more about their instruments. They are on their first note. Good job guys! Mrs. Woody let us work on a project about explorers. Miriam Carter, 6th grade  

We’ve been learning about integers, which is negatives, positives, and absolute value.  In science, we’ve been modeling seasons and day and night. We also have a science benchmark next week. I hope everyone does well. Mrs. Pierson’s 6th grade class pet Tana has been doing good. Our volleyball team has been having difficulties winning their games, but it’s OK because they keep trying. Semaiya Craighead, 6th grade  

On Monday, the cheerleaders had practice Monday through Thursday. 6th graders are learning new cheers.  In history we have had at least five people to label all 50 states. Also, we have been making great progress in math. The history project is going great so far. Reading is good as well. Also, clubs have been doing really good and fun on Tuesday. We’ve been reviewing math for tests and they’re giving us plenty of time to get things done. Reading, we’ve been doing class kit history. On Thursday we tried to finish the history project but couldn’t. Most of us took ours home. Nevaeh Daniels, 6th grade  

Even teachers are now handing out ducks to students and other teachers. I have a lot of questions. Who started it? Is it a game? Am I insane? Maybe keep your eyes peeled for ducks Bulldog Media is back! At lunch, we were given an option of meatloaf or chicken smackers. Our science word of the week is rotate. The Bulldog Bash is happening on October 10th!  Gifted students started their project on Greek mythology. Lunch menu today is burgers or cheeseburgers or roasted Turkey and bacon.  Thursday, Second Chance cheer is October 6th, 7th, and 8th. Lunch today is spicy chicken sandwich. There is another volleyball match with Laurel Park. There is a JV volleyball match with Carroll County.  Mercy Moore, 6th grade  

The week was full of new things! On Monday, we had a test of Ms. Clemons’ class. We got a 70 for our GPA. In Mrs. Scales class, we’ve been reading the novel Freak the Mighty. Great book, I can’t wait to read more!  In Mrs. Woody’s class, we are researching and creating a board about a chosen explorer from a selection. It’s fun and we’re getting a lot out of it. The golf team was excited to play in Franklin County, but sadly the weather had other plans. MMS had a successful week, and I can’t wait for the next week at MMS! Emery Taylor, 6th grade  

On a Monday in history class, we finished making our Adobe Villages. We did our vocabulary on Class Kick. At lunch, we had stuffed cheese crust pizza. On Tuesday in history, we learned about the Vikings, and we have a project due on Thursday. We will have to choose a Viking and write about them. At lunch, we had chicken smackers and meatloaf. At lunch, we had cheeseburgers and hamburgers. On Thursday in history, we had to do our projects. In English, we read chapters 8 through 10 and did our vocabulary. In math, we played a game after finishing our notes. At lunch, we had crispy chicken, spicy or not spicy. On Thursday, the JV volleyball had a match at Laurel Park. On Friday, the varsity football team had a game at the high school. Calleigh Whittle, 6th grade
