Thanks to a Jason Heigl Foundation grant as part of its Spay and Neuter Initiative, the Blue Ridge Animal Welfare League (BRAWL) was able to spay/neuter 34 animals at no charge to pet owners during its Sept. 22 Angels of Assisi shuttle.
BRAWL President Dana Jones said the group typically holds a spay/neuter shuttle every few months.
“It’s a huge benefit to the community, they only pay a small subsidy and we pay the rest. But this event is super exciting because the Jason Heigl Foundation awarded us a grant to cover their portion, so everybody is getting a free spay/neuter,” she said.
