The Martinsville City School Board held its final meeting of the school year on June 8, approving several policy changes and receiving an update on the division’s summer meals program.
Among the policy changes approved was a revision requiring employees who resign to return school property or be charged replacement costs in accordance with the law.
School officials also reported that nearly 750 families have signed up for the summer meals program. The registration deadline is June 16. The program is available to children ages 1 to 18, including those who do not attend Martinsville City Public Schools.
“The kicker is, they cannot be receiving meals. I failed to mention, they can’t be receiving meals from any other USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) program. So they can’t sign up for our programming and sign up for Henry County’s, or if they’re attending summer school or something,” officials said during the meeting.
“If they’re attending Boys and Girls Club, they will be able to still receive the last three boxes because we will, uh, stop our, uh, food service program with Boys and Girls Club. It will come to a halt on July 17th.”
The board also approved the division’s application under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).
One of the policy revisions involved Policy GCPB, which governs school property. Under the revised policy, employees leaving the division must return all School Board property in their possession, including security badges, keys, locks, confidential and proprietary information, books, tools, technology equipment such as laptop computers, and other items requiring replacement. The replacement value of items not returned may be charged against an employee’s remaining or final paycheck in accordance with the law.
The board also approved several new policies, including:
AH — Digital Accessibility
KPA — Parental Notification of Safe Storage of Prescription Drugs and Firearms
KGBA/JFCD — Weapons on School Property
JS — Extracurricular Activity Notifications
JLB — Financial Aid Information and Guidance for High School Students
IK — Academic Planning and Course Selection
ILBC — College Board School Day Program.
