The annual Bikers for Babies ride was held Aug. 22, raising more than $9,500 for the Pregnancy Care Center of MHC, with additional donations still being counted.
Riders gathered at the Pregnancy Center before taking to the road for the nearly two-hour ride, which concluded at Rich Acres Fire Station on Joseph Martin Highway. Participants then shared a meal prepared and served by several members of the fire department.
Organizer Patrick Rusmisel said the event had a good turnout despite questionable weather.
“We had a good turnout on Saturday. The weather was a little sketchy, but it cleared in time for the ride,” he said.
Del. Eric Phillips, R-Martinsville, also attended the event and spoke about the proposed constitutional amendment concerning abortion that will appear on the November ballot.
Rusmisel said the organization had received more than $9,500 in supporter and sponsor donations by the time of the event, with more contributions expected.
During the ride, participants traveled to the Pregnancy Center, giving them an opportunity to see the organization they were supporting.
J. Santoemma, who also helped organize the event, said additional funds were still being received and counted Saturday and would be added to the final total.
“I am truly blessed to be able to work with a group of people that care about expectant mothers and their babies. People who desire to be the hands and feet of Christ,” Rusmisel said. “If you don’t know about the Pregnancy Care Center, please look them up and see the wonderful work they are doing.”
