Bassett man charged in connection with Saturday incident

Sanford Gregory Millner currently is being held in the Henry County Jail with no bond in connection with a Saturday shooting incident.

On Saturday, August 22, at about 11:58 p.m., the Martinsville/Henry County Emergency 911 Center received a call that an individual had been shot at 83 Blossom St., Bassett.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found a woman, identified as Brenda Sue Turner, 46, of 83 Blossom St., Bassett, had suffered a gunshot wound to the head, but was alert and coherent, according to a release from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

Turner was air lifted to the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Investigators determined an alleged altercation occurred between Turner and a man, according to the release.

Sanford Gregory Millner, 57, of 83 Blossom St., Bassett, was arrested on three felony charges in connection with the alleged incident: malicious wounding, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, the release stated.

He is currently being held in the Henry County Jail with no bond.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 276-638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 63-CRIME (632-7463). The Crimestoppers Program offers rewards up to $2,500 for information related to crime. The nature of the crime and the substance of the information determine the amount of reward paid.
