Availability of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) at local child, adult care centers

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) administers the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and disperses Federal funds to provide healthy meals, and snacks to enrolled participants.

The amount of reimbursement the center receives is based on the information provided on the CACFP Meal Benefit Income Eligibility Form (IEF).  Part of USDAs requirement is to complete the IEF. If household income is equal or less than the income listed in the chart below for household size, the center will receive a higher level of reimbursement. The same meals will be available at no separate charge to all participants at each CACFP facility without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity in any program or activity conducted or funded by USDA.

For child care centers who have participants who are Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) recipients, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) households, or are Head Start participants are automatically eligible to receive free meal benefits. A foster child(ren) or a participant who is a member of a household receiving SNAP, FDPIR, or TANF assistance, or a Head Start participant is automatically eligible to receive free meal benefits. Emergency Shelters and other centers provide meals at no separate charge.

In accordance with federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies, the USDA, its Agencies, offices, and employees, and institutions participating in or administering USDA programs are prohibited from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity in any program or activity conducted or funded by USDA. Persons with disabilities who require alternative means of communication for program information (e.g. Braille, large print, audiotape, American Sign Language, etc.), should contact the Agency (State or local) where they applied for benefits. Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or have speech disabilities may contact USDA through the Federal Relay Service at (800) 877-8339. Additionally, program information may be made available in languages other than English.

To file a program complaint of discrimination, complete the USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form, (AD-3027) found online at: http://www.ascr.usda.gov/complaint_filing_cust.html, and at any USDA office, or write a letter addressed to USDA and provide in the letter all of the information requested in the form.  To request a copy of the complaint form, call (866) 632-9992.  Submit your completed form or letter to USDA by:

The centers will receive free or reduced-price meal reimbursement based on the following income eligibility guidelines effective July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.
