A 64-year-old Henry County man died Saturday, Sept. 19, from injuries suffered in an assault earlier this month, and authorities said they plan to seek enhanced charges, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
Frederick Murray was injured during an assault reported about 5:45 a.m. Sept. 14 at his home on Brook Court, the sheriff’s office said in a release. He was treated at the scene by Henry County Public Safety personnel and airlifted to an area hospital.
Murray died Saturday while under medical care, the release stated.
As a result of Murray’s death, the release stated that the sheriff’s office has been in contact with the Henry County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and that enhanced charges will be sought against Robert Glenn Wagoner Jr., who was charged in connection with the incident.
The release did not specify the charges that will be sought.
Wagoner remains held without bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.
As previously reported, deputies responding to the Sept. 14 call found Murray inside the home with severe injuries and evidence of forced entry, according to the sheriff’s office. Murray’s Toyota Camry also was reported stolen.
The vehicle later was allegedly found on property in Patrick County after a concerned citizen contacted law enforcement, authorities have said. Investigators identified Wagoner as a suspect and later took him into custody at a family member’s home in Henry County.
Wagoner initially was charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit assault and battery, aggravated malicious wounding and grand larceny of a motor vehicle.
The investigation remains active, according to the sheriff’s office, and additional information about the enhanced charges will be released when appropriate.
