The Army Corps of Engineers announced the event scheduled on December 25th at Goose Point Campground will be cancelled in cooperation with the governor’s orders published last week, but camping will be available through December 31.

Gov. Ralph Northam issued a modified ‘Stay at Home’ order, which included a curfew and lowered the number allowed in social gatherings to a limit of 10 people.

“The safety of our campers and our patrons is our number one priority” said Christopher Powell, Operations Manager for the Army Corps of Engineers at Philpott Lake. “We were hoping to enjoy one last event at our campgrounds before shutting down but feel this is the best way to make sure our staff, volunteers and the public remain safe.”

The Army Corps of Engineers is proud to operate several campgrounds across the country and to date, no reported cases of transmission of the virus have occurred in any of them. The corps continues to monitor the situation and will reopen the Visitor’s Center as soon as safely possible.

Campers still wishing to camp during the final weeks of December are encouraged to do so, but must have make a reservation in advance at https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/233687 or by calling (877) 444-6777.

For more information, contact the Philpott Lake Visitor’s Center at (276) 629-2703.
