Henry County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported stabbing at 1580 Grandview Road, Apartment 3, Martinsville, at approximately 7:40 p.m. on Feb. 23. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with June Yvonne Mitchell and alleged they observed blood and several bladed weapons inside the home, according to the sheriff’s office.

A short time later, Robert E. Thomas arrived at Sovah Health Martinsville’s emergency room with a stab wound to the abdomen. Thomas told the medical staff that he had been stabbed inside the apartment.

Mitchell was detained at the scene and later transported to the sheriff’s office for questioning. Investigators executed a search warrant at the residence to collect additional evidence related to the incident.

Authorities determined that an argument between the two escalated into a physical altercation, during which both parties engaged in shoving before Mitchell allegedly produced a knife and stabbed Thomas once.

Mitchell, 62, was charged with one count of malicious wounding. She is being held at the Henry County Adult Detention Center without bond.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 276-638-8751 or Crime Stoppers at 63-CRIME (632-7463). The Crime Stoppers program offers rewards of up to $2,500 for information related to a crime. The reward amount is determined based on the nature of the crime and the value of the information provided.
