On Saturday, Feb. 25 starting at 10 a.m., Piedmont Arts will host its annual African American Read-In and Family Day. with story time, crafts, and a public read-aloud. This event is sponsored by Sovah Health and Carter Bank and Trust. It will be hosted at the museum and is free and open to the public.

Held in conjunction with the National African American Read-In established by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English, this is the museum’s annual celebration of African American performers, artists, and writers. This initiative has reached more than six million participants around the world and is a part of an effort to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month. It is a groundbreaking effort to encourage communities to read together, centering African American books and authors. Piedmont Arts is proud to host such an empowering community event.
