A demonstration spearheaded by the social media group MHC Protest was held July 12 at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Daniels Creek Road in Collinsville.
Benjamin Compson-Lawson, who was among the organizers, helped individuals join the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) during the event. The price for membership with the NAACP is $30 for adults and $10 for children, according to Compson-Lawson. Members of the NAACP work with activists and organizers in local NAACP branches, support access to quality education, healthcare, economic opportunities; advocate for laws and policies to improve communities; participate in voter registration and get out the vote campaigns; and attend other events and conferences.
