A local band has teamed up with other area musicians and performers to film its first music video.
JUND, whose members are from Henry and Patrick counties, has been touring throughout the region as part of the local heavy metal scene.
The band’s new song, “Verdant Catacombs,” draws on movie themes and current topics.
“The song is called ‘Verdant Catacombs.’ The name is derived from a specific card in Magic,” said singer Charles McCall.
JUND’s current lineup formed around 2025, McCall said, although the members have been playing together for several years.
“We’ve been playing shows for the past five years together, as JUND for the past” two or so years. “We’ve met a crazy amount of bands, played a ton of shows, or probably close to that 100 show marker if we’re not past that now. It’s been a great time,” said drummer Chris Reeves.
JUND has also performed at several charity events and plans to continue supporting local causes.
The band has raised money for the Martinsville-Henry County Harm Reduction Coalition and the Rocky Mount No-Kill Shelter. During the Christmas season, the band also holds a food drive, collecting money and nonperishable food for the Grace Network.
“We love DJ Whats! I love this venue. We love the energy it brings, the vibe from this place, the energy and time and work and everything that he’s put into this type of place,” McCall said. “We love it here.”
Guitarist Michael Patterson said the band’s name comes from the card game “Magic: The Gathering.”

“We’ve raised money for the Rocky Mount No-Kill Shelter. And every year in previous iterations around Christmas time, usually the first Saturday in December, we always raise a food drive. So money and any kind of non-perishable foods, we give to the Grace Network because they’ll help people with a lot of different things, like jobs,” McCall said.
JUND is scheduled to perform at New Moon Tattoo’s Halloween show at Scuffle Hill’s Halloween show Oct. 24 and at New Moon Tattoo’s Halloween show Oct. 30.
“Verdant Catacombs” is now streaming on various music platforms. The band also announces upcoming events through Facebook.
